Céline arbeitete mit einem neuen Team von Songwritern und Produzenten für dieses selbstbenannte Album. Fünf Titel wurden von Diane Warren geschrieben. "With this Tear" war ein Geschenk von Prince, der diesen Song speziell für Céline schrieb. Die Titel wurden von Walter Afanasieff, Ric Wake und Guy Roche produziert.

Bis 1992 haben die Alben "Unison" und "Celine Dion" sowie Medien Auftritte es geschafft, Céline's Status als Superstar in Nord Amerika zu ebnen. Sie hatte ihr Ziel erreicht und wurde bekannt und erfolgreich im anglophonen Markt. Dieser Erfolg veränderte Céline's Leben auch privat. René Angélil war nicht mehr nur ihr Manager, sondern beide gaben bekannt, auch privat ein Liebespaar zu sein. Bis dahin wurde diese Liebe geheim gehalten, da beide befürchteten, dass die Öffentlichkeit den großen Altersunterschied von 26 Jahren nicht akzeptieren würde.

Die Europäische Version von Celine Dion enthält "Where Does My Heart Beat Now" als Bonus Track. Das Album wurde am 07. September 1992 mit einer Bonus Disc, welche vier Songs aus "Unison" enthält, in Australien neu veröffentlicht. Céline promotete das Album mit ihrer Celine Dion Tour.

"Send Me A Lover" war eine Art "Überbleibsel" von den Aufnahmen des Celine Dion Albums und wurde auf dem Charity Album "Kumbaya Album 1994" erstmals zwei Jahre später veröffentlicht.

In anderen Regionen der Welt kam Celine Dion auf Platz 15 (Australien), Platz 31 (Neuseeland), Platz 59 (Japan) und Platz 70 (U.K.). Es bekam auch Gold in Japan und Australien. Céline bekam ihren ersten World Music Award für Best Sellung Canadian Female Recording Artist of the Year.

Die erfolgreichste Single des Albums war "Beauty and the Beast", welche Platz 9 der Billboard Hot 100 erreichte und mit Gold in den Vereinigten Staaten ausgezeichnet wurde. Die anderen Singles, welche die U.S. Top 40 erreichten, waren: "If You Asked Me To" (Platz 4), "Nothing Broken But My Heart" (Platz 29) und "Love Can Move Mountains" (PLatz 36)
